From a young age, both Kevin and Rien have held a keen interest in STEM subjects. They embarked on their journey with VEX IQ during the 3rd grade, and since then, they've achieved multiple appearances at the world championship. In March 2022, Kevin and Rien visited a bowling alley where they brainstormed ways to contribute to their community using their robotics skills. Their decision was to elevate robotics education in local elementary schools, sharing their expertise with young students who are interested in robotics.

Throughout the VEX IQ 2022-2023 season, Kevin and Rien took on the role of mentors for a team comprised of four students from Sandpiper Elementary School. Under their guidance, this team clinched numerous awards, including the coveted "Excellence Award" at the State Championship, securing their place in the World Championship. Remarkably, their team stood as the sole representative from Sandpiper Elementary School to receive an invitation to the World Championship.

Amidst these remarkable accomplishments, Kevin and Rien remained cognizant of the fact that many students were unable to participate in the engaging robotics program due to a lack of mentors. Their aspiration was to ensure that any interested student could access and thrive in the robotics program. During the summer of 2023, Kevin and Rien convened outside a bagel store in Redwood Shores and made a pivotal decision: to establish a nonprofit organization named WeRobot, Inc. This initiative would rally high school students and industrial engineers to serve as mentors for elementary students participating in the robotics program. They understood that the more volunteers they could attract, the more students would have the opportunity to engage with robotics. The driving ethos behind WeRobot's formation was encapsulated in their motto: "No student left behind in Robotics."

Today, WeRobot has successfully drawn in 12 high school students, each boasting extensive experience in VEX IQ, alongside a cohort of engineers employed by cutting-edge high-tech companies.
